Police Forces Information
The following information will help you find what your local police force requires.
NOTE: While we have tried to ensure accuracy, police policies can change. You should check your local police force's website to find the most up-to-date information.
Halton Region (Oakville, Georgetown)
- Cost: $20
- Payment: Cash only
- Time Required:
- ID Required: 2 pieces, at least 1 photo, and 1 address
- Website: Halton Police
- Go to any Halton District Police Station and ask for the proper form to complete a "Screening for a volunteer position working with children" police background check.
- You will need to hand the form in to the officer directly.
- Be sure to get a letter from the Leader Registrar to verify that you are volunteering.
Hamilton-Wentworth (Hamilton, Ancaster, Grimsby)
- Cost: $15
- Payment: Visa, MasterCard, Interac or cash
- Time Required: 4 weeks
- ID Required: (unknown)
- Website: Hamilton Police
- Once you apply for leadership, you will be mailed a signed "Oneida Police Check Volunteer Form".
- Take the Oneida Police Check form and a Vulnerable Sector Screening into Hamilton's Police Station.
- You will need to pick up the police check in person and mail to Oneida's Leader Registrar.
London
- Cost: $40
- Payment: Visa, MasterCard, Interac or cash
- Time Required: 7 days
- ID Required: Photo ID, with proof of London residency
- Website: London Police
- Obtain a signed Agency Vulnerable Screening Form from Oneida's Leader Registrar and fill in a Volunteer Screening Form.
- Take the two forms to London's Police HeadQuarters
- London Police will mail the background check to Oneida's Leader Registrar.
Niagara Region (Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Welland)
- Cost: $15
- Payment: Visa, MasterCard, Interac or cash
- Time Required: 6 weeks
- ID Required: Photo ID (when picking up)
- Website: Niagara Regional Police
- Contact Oneida's Leader Registrar to fill out a "Clearance 2" form, which is provided to Oneida by Niagara Police.
- The Leader Registrar is responsible for checking your ID, ensure the form is accurate and witnessing the form.
- Submit your completed form to Niagara Police.
- When you pick-up your completed check, you will need to bring ID with you.
OPP (all areas without a local force)
- Cost: usually free
- Payment: unknown
- Time Required: unknown
- ID Required: 2 pieces, 1 of them photo
- Website: Opp Police
- Once you apply for leadership, you will be mailed a signed "Oneida Police Check Volunteer Form".
- Take the Oneida Police Check Volunteer Form to any OPP office and request a "police background check for volunteering with young children".
- When you recieve/pick-up your completed check, mail it to the Leader Registrar.
Ottawa
- Cost: No Charge
- Payment: N/A
- Time Required: 15 days
- ID Required: 2 pieces, one photo, must have DOB on it.
- Website: Ottawa Police
- Once you apply for leadership, you will be mailed a signed "Oneida Police Check Volunteer Form".
- Take the "Oneida Police Check Volunteer Form" to any Ottawa Police Station
- Ask for
a Police Record Check for persons seeking Volunteer roles primarily to serve the vulnerable sector. (You can fill out this form before you go to save time)
- Unknown whether it is mailed or picked up.
Peel Region (Brampton, Mississauga)
- Cost: No Cost
- Payment: N/A
- Time Required: 3-8 weeks
- ID Required: unknown, proof of residency
- Website: Peel Police
- Contact the Leader Registrar to obtain a form that has been registered with Peel police. (it will be mailed to you)
- Take the form into
7750 Hurontario Street, Brampton
- Pick up the form from the same location.
Toronto
- Cost: (submitted by camp)
- Payment: Visa, MasterCard, Interac or cash
- Time Required: unknown
- ID Required: 2 pieces, 1 must be photo with signature
- Website: Toronto Police
- Obtain a Toronto Police Check Form (NOT a "clearance letter") and mail it to Oneida's Leader Registrar.
- The Leader Registrar will submit your form and a signed "Oneida Police Check Form" to Toronto Police for processing.
- Toronto police will return the results to Oneida's registrar.
York Region (North York, Markham)
- Cost: $15
- Payment: Exact Cash, Mastercard, Visa, Debit Card or Certified Cheque
- Time Required: unknown
- ID Required: 2 pieces, 1 must be photo
- Website: York.
- Once you apply for leadership, you will be mailed a signed "Oneida Police Check Volunteer Form".
- Take your "
Oneida Police Check Volunteer Form" to a York Regional Police Station. (note: they do not accept faxed signatures)
- Police will mail the results back to you.
- Mail your results to Camp Oneida's Leader Registrar.
